St Mary’s Heritage Centre - Kathryn and Martin Wedding Photographer

Having known Martin and Kathyrn through their onstage appearances across York’s theatres, I knew I was in for a spectacular day. Martin kicked off his preparations in swish top hats and tails in which the groomsmen left the building demonstrating their style with a short routine.

Whilst the gentleman made their way to the ceremony, Kathyrn and her bridesmaids had their hair and makeup styled and exchanged gifts including some gorgeous earrings. Kathyrn then entered the room in her gorgeous wedding dress ready for family hugs and much joy before being whisked away in a vintage Rolls Royce towards St Mary The Virgin Parish Church.

And everyone in the church was stunned by the performances during the ceremony with a large choir and members of the congregation echoing through the building with spine-tingling harmonies.

After heartfelt vows and the paperwork signed, we headed out into a long line of dried flower confetti throwing and swiftly through to a big group shot of every wedding guest down on the green.

Tea and cake were had at a nearby hall and after all were suitably caffeinated, the wedding party made their way to the reception - but not Martin and Kathryn. The happy newlyweds headed past the reception tailed by a certain excited photographer (that would be me) as I knew we were heading to Newcastle’s rather grand Millenium Bridge.

Martin kicked off by perching on a railing with a decent 20 foot drop behind him, I can’t help but feel this concerned me a lot more than it did him! After enjoying the view of the bridge we headed out in the howling wind to the very centre and windiest point of the bridge with the vast Tyne river flowing far beneath us. A truly epic moment I will treasure and a brilliant idea from the couple.

After arriving at St Mary’s heritage centre (a medieval, grade one-listed building, formerly the parish church for Gateshead) they hopped out of the Rolls Royce. Martin and Kathyrn entered as the newly titled Mr and Mrs Lay to a round of applause. delicious food was had and some wonderful speeches. After the tables were cleared, I could feel a buzz of anticipation as there were rumors of a rehearsed musical theatre number for the first dance. It’s fair to say that the anticipation was well worth the wait with the pair entering for a fully choreographed performance with a really fantastic vocal performance from the two.

A sweet father and daughter dance then took place and then the whole dance floor opened up for the partying to commence. There were some really sentimental moments occurring across the room and a few tears of joy from family and friends as they jostled and jibed through the night.

Now that the evening was dark and people’s taxis were arriving, I offered Martin and Kathyrn a moment to take in some fresh air and look over the gorgeous cityscape of Newcastle which marks the final image in the gallery.
